At least they didn't mess up with Beijing. The second largest city in the world, a 16 development province. Most governments in the region are also some variation of despotism when most polities in the region were more like indirect democratic-ish elective monarchies more reminicent of Magyar Hungary than anything else, heck the Tlaxcaltecans were outright governed by a parliament, the only nations in the region with straight out royal families and monarchies were more outward nations like the Tarascans the Zapotecs and the Mayan city-states. The entirety of Central Mexico is badly represented, not even the lake is there, THE LAKE!, not to mention the dozens or so cities that surrounded it, all of which were quite big on their own, not Tenochtitlan big, but most studies put the number of the urban polities without counting surrounding populations at 20-30k each.įurthermore we are missing important places, Culhuacan, the place were the Triple Alliance was founded all the way back in the 800's and a major power on its own right, Azcapotzalco, Xochimilco, etc, etc, thats not to mention nations like Huejotzingo, THE commercial centern of Western Mexico and the reason the Tlaxcaltecans and Mexicas were in conflict. Y'all think this is a fair representation or a dis to the Aztecs? Tenochtitlan was a super city to rival Europe that is represented by a 16 dev province. So my question is this how do you think the Americas should be represented in game? Is it fine how they are now? Should they have more development that is then cut in half when Europeans arrive? Are there enough events to realistically portray the situation? I'm interested to see what the community thinks about this region.

I understand that after the arrival of Europeans the population of the Americas was devastated and that is probably how the provinces are represented in game, but after the recent update I would have expected an event chain or something to represent this rise and fall instead. As far as I'm aware there are also no events to increase development of the province. The actual province of Mexico is only 16 development, which would be fine to start, but it is a highlands province with no development cost reduction. It also became a massive center of trade being at the center of the Aztec empire.īut enough gushing about how dope this city was, because it's not really represented in game. The Aztecs were able to engineer this great city in the middle of a briny lake by separating out the saltiest of the water, bringing in outside freshwater through aqueducts like the Romans, and developing a unique land reclamation and farming technique. According to a quick wikipedia search, this meant that at the time only the largest European cities could rival it (being Constantinople, Venice, and Paris). Estimates of the population put it at just over 200,000 residents, with some estimates reaching even 300,000. The great Aztec capital of Tenochtitlan, represented in game by the province of Mexico, was the largest city in pre-columbian America.
